Uma is an author, editor and playwright. Some of her published books are Mangoes on the Maple Tree, Sisters at the Well, The Sweet Smell of Mother’s Milk-Wet Bodice,The Door I Shut behind Me and award winning What was Always Hers. Her most recent novel, A Cycle of the Moon, was nominated for the Manitoba Book of the Year award. Just released is a book edited by her – Vignettes from Vineyards of Memory, where ten seniors including Uma have recorded memories of their childhood. She recently retired from the University of Winnipeg where she was Professor of English and a specialist in Postcolonial, South Asian Canadian, and Women’s Literatures.
