Alpana has reported extensively on Jammu & Kashmir as a journalist at the peak of the armed conflict in the 90s. In 2006, she was awarded WISCOMP's Scholar of Peace Fellowship to map shifting identities of nationality and religion during J&K's armed conflict of 20 years. Pure is her first book
Pure (working title)
Pure looks at the Kashmir dispute as an epic clash of two ideas at the very core of the
global war on radical Islam between exclusivist forces. It details the gradual makeover of the Kashmir issue from a political and ethnic dispute into a religious cause that tried to change its mixed, society with its ‘pure’ Islam and suspicion of the ‘other’.
