I wanted to create something for our 25th anniversary that also encapsulated the invisible but potent form of India, which is the draped form, and not just become pastiche embroideries, colour and celebrity/ Bollywood. For me, style and culture today exists in the vanishing species of people who live around the country and aren’t burdened by a colonial complex. I wanted to showcase a new way of seeing our heritage.
