A weaver realizes that the only way to overcome the mountains that surround him all around is to weave a carpet that will fly. Thus starts his quest. A quest that must pass through the maze of Myth, Legend, Folklore and Tradition while all along the weaver must stay away from the clutches of the imperial forces who are after him. Along the quest the Weaver catches up with Heemal, the intriguing daughter of a dyer who may either prove to be the weaver’s greatest guide or his greatest mistake. Love, betrayal and disappointment pave the way of the Weaver to and back from the black dungeon in whose dark depths the weaver confronts a prophecy that foretells of the weaver’s tragic fall. Will the Weaver escape the prophecy or is the prophecy the only way to the flying carpet? Set in the nineteenth century Srinagar when Kashmir reeled under the tyranny of Dogra Imperial rule, The Last Knot is an exploration of the role of Art and Artist in troubled times. With the Shawlbaaf Movement (The rebellion of shawl weavers) in background the Flying Carpet weaves a tapestry of history, myth, legend and folklore as an Artist reaches the tragic culmination of his art.
